THE FEW..THE PROUD..THE EXPECTING..

16 May Operation Showers of Appreciation will be hosting a baby shower aboard MCAGCC 29 Palms for 50 new and expecting families.  The shower will be held at the Protestant Chapel located on the base.

23 May Operation Showers of Appreciation and the Huntington Beach Elk's Lodge No. 1925 will host a baby shower for 15 expecting military moms from Southern California.

Many of these families have a spouse that is currently deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan and will not be  home for the birth of their new baby.  Our support is greatly needed for these families.

Operation Showers of Appreciation is a volunteer and donation based organization working to assist our local military and their families.  OSOA assists military families who have recently had babies and those that are expecting with the support of our local community.

We are currently seeking donations for our upcoming Baby Showers in May to assist these military families.  Any donation will be a blessing to these families as most of them are far from their families and homes.

If you are interested in sponsoring one of our families or making a donation, please contact Kimberly Felshaw at (949) 547-7780 or by email at Kimberly@OperationShowersofAppreciation.org

Please view our website for a list of common items needed for our Baby Showers.

Thank you for your support.

More help for expectant mothers whose military husbands have been deployed

San Diego, CA – March, 18 2009 – Operation Showers of Appreciation, who has been working hard for years to get essential baby items to military families, announces today that it is expanding it’s reach by joining forces with Essential Baby Planner, the county’s first baby planning service.  This is great news for San Diego’s military.

According to statistics, 60% of military families need financial aid.  That’s not a comforting thought when starting a family.  Operation Showers of Appreciation focuses on this specific population by throwing quarterly baby showers for 10 – 15 expecting moms.  Always in need of sponsors and donations, Kimberly Felshaw, founder of Operation Showers of Appreciation, is great at seeking out opportunities.

“Our baby showers are gaining more and more visibility and we really need to be ahead of the game in order to maximize the help we can give to our military families,” says Felshaw.  “That’s why it’s great to be teaming up with Essential Baby Planner.  She knows exactly what we need for our moms-to-be and how to get the most bang for our buck.”

“I’ve been looking for a great charity that falls into the baby planning arena as well as helps out those who are near and dear to my heart,” adds Essential Baby Planner’s owner, Carrie Furet.  “My husband was military, my dad was military and my grandfather was military.  I know how hard it can be for military families just starting out and maybe not having a good support system.”

Essential Baby Planner is now pledging a portion of its proceeds to Operation Showers of Appreciation.  And by joining forces, a new baby shower event has been added to the roster for San Diego!  This new baby shower will be geared towards helping out military in the southern portion of San Diego like Mira Mar and 32nd Street.

2009 Gift of Sight

OneSight, Oakley, Walking Shield, Sons of American Legion, and OSOA with the help of the North Coast Church were able to assist nearly 800 military families in need of prescription eyeglasses at our 2009 Camp Pendleton Clinic.

The event took place February 16-20 at the North Coast Church in Vista.  Oakley donated nearly $1million worth of frames for this event to honor our local military and their families and OneSight provided the prescription lenses.

A very special thank you to all those families that were able to participate in the clinic this year.  It's because of your service projects like this are done for our military.

All glasses that were not picked up during the clinic will be available Saturday April 4th from 10-2 at the Abbie Reinke Community Center on Camp Pendleton.  Please look for the Oakely vehicke in the parking lot.

OSOA assisted 6 local military families during the 2009 Holiday Season!

Operation Showers of Appreciation, with the help of several other local non-profit organizations and individual community members, was able to add a little Christmas cheer to 6 local military families during the holidays.  Christmas dinners, stocking stuffers, and various gifts were also provided to more than 30 additional local military and their families.

A very special "Thank You" to everyone that had a hand in making this holiday season extra special for these families.

We are proud to announce we will be making this a permanent program with OSOA every Holiday Season.  We look forward to your support to these very deserving families in the new year and years to come.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our military and their families during the Holiday Season!  Thank you for your sacrifices!

We have received nearly 400 baskets from our new Baby Bags/Baskets for a New Military Mom Program.  This is one of the volunteer opportunities offered in conjunction with the Disney Give A Day Get A Day program offered this year.

We have drop off dates scheduled for the remainder of the year.  This is an ongoing program and will help us reach our goal of assisting 300 military families this year and surpass that number by hundreds.  If you are interested in more information on this program, please contact Patricia Cone at Patricia@operationshowersofappreciation.org
